Get the smile you’ve always wanted – fast!
Are you embarrassed to smile? Have you ever wanted a different smile? We understand how important your smile is to your quality of life, and Bliss Family Dentistry believes that everyone should love their smile. If your teeth are misshapen, gapped, or chipped, veneers may be the right option for you. Veneers fall under the category of cosmetic dentistry and are a thin layer of material that a dentist puts on top of your tooth to give it a more classical “tooth” shape.
Are veneers right for you?
If you want to change something about your smile, veneers are probably right for you. Although you have several options for getting the smile of your dreams, veneers can help change multiple things about your teeth at once.
During your consultation, our dentists will work closely with you to determine if this treatment option is the right choice for you. We remove tooth enamel to apply veneers to your tooth; therefore, we cannot reverse this process. Veneers can be an excellent option for many patients. However, our El Paso team may recommend other options if you clench or grind your teeth because it can cause them to chip and break.
We may also recommend other options if your teeth are currently unhealthy. We believe in making sure that you have a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime. Therefore, we work to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy before proceeding with your cosmetic treatment plan. If you have tooth decay or gum disease, our team may either treat these issues or recommend a different solution entirely.
Patients who are not good candidates for braces and who wish for a straighter smile also often find this treatment to deliver the desired result.
Benefits of veneers for your smile.
Because of the versatility of veneers, you can accomplish amazing results for multiple issues with this one procedure. Veneers can change the shape, size, color, or length of your teeth. You may be a good candidate for veneers if you have:
- An uneven gum line, making your teeth look too long or too short
- Teeth that are crowded, crooked, or gapped
- Small chips in your front teeth
- Teeth that are stained or discolored beyond the help of whitening
No matter what you dislike about your smile, veneers can give you the smile of your dreams. The strength of porcelain veneers means that your beautiful smile will last between 10-15 years!
How are veneers placed?
An initial mold is taken of your teeth. You will bite down on a plaster-like material that takes a perfect impression of your teeth. This is then removed and the veneers for your teeth are made from the mold. This way, the veneers are not generic, but instead made specifically for your mouth and your teeth.
The teeth you are having veneers placed on are then sanded down slightly. The top layer of enamel is removed, so when the veneers are placed it is flush with the rest of your teeth. The level of enamel removed depends on the kind of veneers you’re going with as some are thicker, which means more of the original tooth’s enamel must be removed.
The veneers are not made right away. It takes a few days to have the veneers produced for your specific teeth. During this time, temporary veneers are applied. These veneers look very much like the real thing. However, the gap between your veneer teeth is not separated, so you’ll have a single, temporary veneer applied over all of your teeth. Don’t worry though, your dentist will carve in grooves so your teeth will still look real. In fact, most people around you won’t even know you’re wearing temps (it looks that good). You will then make an appointment for your next visit.
When you come back to the dentist office the temp dental veneers are removed. The temps are usually heat sealed, so it is easy to warm up the temp and then have it crack off. Do note that when the temp veneers are removed, it may smell just a bit initially. After all, you haven’t brushed the area under the temp veneers for a week or so, which can cause an odor with some patients (don’t worry, this is natural and happens with a lot of patients).
The individual veneers are now placed on your teeth. Your dentist will align all of the veneers before securing everything in the proper spot. From there, the gaps will be checked to make sure everything aligns properly, and your dentist may carve in some additional areas to make sure you have the best, perfect fitting veneers.
